2. What Information We Collect
2.1 Waitlist and Pre-Launch Signups
Before the app is publicly available, you can join our waitlist. When you do, we collect:
- Your email address
- Your confirmation that you are a United States resident
We use this information solely to contact you about Sprout Canopy, including to let you know when the app launches. Your email is stored and managed through Kit (formerly ConvertKit), our email service provider, which processes it on our behalf and is not permitted to use it for its own purposes. We do not sell this information or use it for any other purpose. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.

2.2 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Name (first name or display name)
- Email address
- Password (stored in encrypted form — we never see your plain-text password)
- Account preferences and settings
2.3 Child Profile Information
To personalize meal suggestions, you may provide information about your child, including:
- Child's first name or nickname
- Child's age or date of birth
- Dietary restrictions and allergies
- Food preferences and dislikes
This information is provided voluntarily by you, the parent or guardian. Sprout Canopy does not knowingly collect information directly from children.
2.4 Meal Logs and Eating History
The core functionality of the app involves logging what your child eats. This includes:
- Text descriptions of meals
- Photos you upload (before/after meal photos or general meal images)
- Acceptance ratings or notes you add about a meal
- Date and time of each log entry
This data forms your child's eating history within the app and is used to generate personalized meal suggestions.
2.5 Subscription and Billing Information
If you subscribe to Sprout Canopy Plus, payment processing is handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We do not collect or store your credit card number or full payment details. We receive only confirmation of your subscription status via RevenueCat, our subscription management provider.
2.6 App Usage Data
We collect standard technical and usage information to operate and improve the app, including:
- Device type and operating system version
- App version
- Session duration and feature usage patterns
- Crash reports and error logs
2.7 Analytics
We use PostHog to collect behavioral analytics data about how the app is used. This helps us understand how users discover value, engage with features, and make subscription decisions — allowing us to improve the product over time.
PostHog collects user interaction events across three general categories:
- Onboarding and activation — actions taken during initial setup and early product discovery
- Feature engagement — how users interact with core app functionality over time
- Subscription behavior — events related to trial starts, plan selection, and conversion
This data is tied to a pseudonymous user identifier and is not used to personally identify you or your child. We do not pass child profile data, meal logs, eating history, or meal photos to PostHog.

2.8 Error and Performance Monitoring
We use Sentry to monitor app stability, capture crash reports, and track performance issues. Sentry may collect:
- Crash reports and error logs
- App performance metrics such as load times and response times
- Device type, operating system, and app version
- Anonymized stack traces used to diagnose technical issues
We take care to ensure that sensitive user data — including child profile information, meal logs, and eating history — is not included in error reports sent to Sentry. Sentry is SOC 2 certified.

3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide and operate the Sprout Canopy app and its features
- To generate personalized meal plans and suggestions based on your child's eating history and preferences
- To process your subscription and manage your account
- To improve the accuracy and relevance of meal recommendations over time
- To respond to your support requests and communications
- To diagnose technical issues and improve app stability
- To send you important service-related communications (e.g., subscription renewal notices, policy updates)
We do not use your information for targeted advertising. We do not sell your data.
4. AI Processing and Third-Party Service Providers
Sprout Canopy uses third-party services to operate the app. When you use features such as photo logging or meal plan generation, certain data is transmitted to these providers for processing. These providers act as data processors on our behalf and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes beyond the services they provide to us.
4.1 Cloud Infrastructure
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
We host the Sprout Canopy app and store your data on AWS infrastructure. This includes secure cloud servers and encrypted data storage. AWS processes data on our behalf in accordance with their Data Processing Agreement.

4.2 Subscription Management
RevenueCat
We use RevenueCat to manage subscription entitlements and billing events. RevenueCat receives limited account identifiers and subscription status information to verify and manage your Plus access.

4.3 AI Meal Planning and Photo Analysis
To generate meal suggestions and analyze meal photos, we transmit relevant data to large language model (LLM) providers. This may include meal log text descriptions, child dietary preferences and restrictions, eating history summaries, and meal photos you upload.
We currently use the following AI providers:

By default, these providers' API terms of service state that they do not use API-submitted data to train their models. However, Sprout Canopy cannot independently verify or control the downstream data handling practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review each provider's privacy policy for the most current information.
We do not intentionally submit personally identifiable information about your child to these providers beyond what is necessary to generate relevant meal suggestions.
5. Children's Privacy
Sprout Canopy is designed for use by parents and guardians (adults). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13. Account creation requires you to be at least 18 years of age.
Information about your child (such as age, dietary preferences, and eating history) is provided by you, the parent or guardian, on behalf of your child. This data is used solely to provide the meal planning and tracking features you have requested.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected information directly from a child without appropriate parental consent, please contact us at help@sproutcanopy.com and we will promptly delete such information.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account and child profile data for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, your data will be permanently removed within 30 days. During this period, you may restore your account by logging in again within up to 30 days. After that, deletion is irreversible. We may retain certain data beyond this period where required by applicable law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.
Meal photos are stored as part of their associated meal log entry. You may delete any meal log — and its associated photo — at any time through the app. You may also delete your entire account and all associated data through the app settings.
7. Your Rights and Choices
As a user of Sprout Canopy, you have the following rights:
- Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: You may update or correct your account information at any time through the app settings.
- Deletion: You may delete your account and associated data at any time through the app settings or by contacting help@sproutcanopy.com.
- Portability: You may request an export of your meal history data.
- Opt-out of communications: You may opt out of non-essential emails by following the unsubscribe link in any email we send.

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- The right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, or sell

- The right to opt out of the sale of your personal information
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

9. Data Security
We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your data, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (TLS/HTTPS)
- Encrypted storage of passwords
- Access controls limiting who within Sprout Canopy can access user data
No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to addressing any data breach promptly and in accordance with applicable law.
10. Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers and devices offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting. There is currently no uniform technology standard for recognizing or responding to DNT signals, and we do not currently alter our data collection or use practices in response to DNT signals. If a standard is adopted in the future that we are required to follow, we will update this policy accordingly.
11. International Users
Sprout Canopy is currently available in the United States only. If you access the app from outside the United States, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice in the app prior to the change becoming effective. The updated policy will include a revised effective date at the top.
Your continued use of Sprout Canopy after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
